Fact: The Prime Minister has
apologised for the 150,000 child migrants who were shipped to Australia and
Canada in the 20th Century (until 1974)
Fact: The new British High Commissioner in Australia, Baroness Amos says “
This was an absolutely shocking period in our history”
Fact: The Leader of the Opposition has announced a party policy to
enable grandparents not to be separated from their grandchildren
Fact: UK Government policy denies annual uprating to former National
Insurance contributors now living in Australia, Canada, South Africa, New
Zealand and most other Commonwealth countries
Fact: The National Insurance Fund according to official figures now
stands in excess of 45,000,000,000 pounds (Yes 45 Billion)
Fact: To provide uprating to former N.I. contributors now retired to frozen
countries would have an annual cost of under 1% of this balance
Fact: The increase in total state pension expenditure required to uprate
pensions in frozen countries is about 0.7%
Solution: In order to avoid the need for further apologies and prevent
history repeating itself, uprating should be applied to all UK state
pensioners. |
